Gorillaz - in a new light...

I came across this video whilst looking at custom trainers. It is a very strange but oddly beautiful piece of animation and brings Gorillaz into a more realistic environment, blurring the boundry between cartoon and real life and making them seem more like one of us. Take a look....

LED Lego

'Brickmodder' specialises in creating LED elements for Lego models. I've never seen this done before, I'm seriously impressed. It must take such skill to create such tiny functioning LEDs, I wish I had the knowledge and skills to do it myself!

We were talking today in class about creating something new and something that others would look at and think "wow, I wish I did that..."
It reminded me of the adverts for series four of Skins on E4, which aired 2 years ago. The animation, created by Treat Studios, is some of the best I have seen. I really like the use of hand-drawn pieces and the mixed media elements that have gone into it. It made, in my mind, a very distinctive advert and fit in well with the unique appeal of Skins itself.

Custom Fatcaps

I just came across these on the internet...

I NEED to buy some more fatcaps and make my own! TMNT and Toy Story are first on my list!

I read an article quite a while back (that I foolishly didn't reference) about an artist who made installations with his used spray caps. He had hundreds in his studio and used them for photography, sculpture and mixed media canvases.
-If anyone by some miracle knows who I mean, please let me know!-

To add to my 'street art uk' blad, I took some photographs of a few of my caps. I didn't end up using them but I haven't ruled out using them in the future, particularly if I light and arrange them properly to create a more effective image.

Bloc28

Bloc28 is a collective of street artists and graffiti artists who have come together to create clothing, hats and accessories depicting their representation of the iconic character of Mickey Mouse.I find it a fascinating example of how people can be set the same brief or given the same character and come up with something so unique. Even in this case where all of the artists use the street as their inspiration, the results are so different to one another.

*Street Stickers*

For a previous project I produced a blad (booklet design) with the title "street art uk". We could use found imagery but for the front cover I created my own piece. I printed some blank "hello my name is" stickers and then drew on existing artists' tags. I stuck them to a wall on my house and took photos everyday to see how they naturally degraded with the weather. There was no human contact with them, I wanted purely natural erosion. For my final covers I had the original quality on the front and an image from a few weeks later on the back. I merged them together so it would also run as a full spread. I'm quite pleased with how it came out.

These photos were taken over a two week period and the effect of natural causes on the 'stickers' is exactly what I wanted to happen.
